Generics are the single best way to save money on your prescription drugs. Once a drug has been around for 7 years its patent expires and other pharmaceutical manufacturers can create the generic equivalent for your medication.
Whenever filling your prescription, or refilling a current prescription, your pharmacist at Advanced Health Pharmacy will check to see if a less-expensive generic version of your medication is available. In some cases, this may require your doctor to rewrite the prescription specifically for the generic drug, but we are happy to make the call for you and ask for a new prescription, saving you the hassle.
Some people have been reluctant to take generic prescriptions because they wonder if they are as good as name brand medicine. Be assured that generics are just as safe and effective as name brand medications – just at a much lower cost. If we have any concerns about the effectiveness of a generic we will let you know and we will be happy to discuss it with your doctor for you.
Why would your doctor write a prescription for a name brand instead of a generic? Your doctor doesn’t always know how much a drug costs and if there is a generic is available. However, your pharmacists at Advanced Health Pharmacy are specialists in pharmaceuticals and can find the best alternatives for you. If your doctor prescribes a medication that you can’t afford or that isn’t covered by your insurance, we will look for an alternative medication and work with you to make sure you can afford the medication you need to get your health on track.
